Cairns Waterfall Circuit - Viewing deck at Mount Hypipamee National Park - The Crater - The Atherton Tablelands

The Crater

Our first stop is is at Mount Hypipamee National Park  one of the best place so see a Southern Cassowary.

Within this beautiful rainforest hides a 70 metre wide volcanic crater. Fifty-eight metres below the rim is a lake over 70 metres deep, covered with a green layer of native waterweed.

Dinner Falls at Mount Hypipamee National Park - The Atherton Tablelands

Dinner Falls

Further down the rainforest track Dinner Falls awaits. A perfect palce to enjoy a refreshing swim.

We continued our tropical walk whilst looking for Cassowaries, but these huge birds are excellent at hiding in the dense rainforest.

Nerada Tea

Only 30 minutes drive north east is Nerada Tea Plantation near Malanda.

Here you can search for Tree Kangaroo’s whist enjoying a selection of locally grown tea’s and homemade cakes.

Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo

Within minutes of arriving, we spotted a Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo high up in the trees feasting on flowers growing within the leaves!
